Stickable 2021 Resolutions

Stickable 2021 Resolutions

2021 will be here in just a couple of days….thank God! Many of us are so ready to be done with 2020 and all it has given us - Covid, shutdowns, unemployment, politics and elections, vacation and wedding cancellations or postponements, closures, isolation, and deaths.

We could never have imagined this one year ago!

However, most of us have survived it. Some may have even thrived this past year!

Now, it’s time to look ahead….to 2021….and to those New Year’s Resolutions. Ugh! Do I resurrect an old one? Make a new one (that I may or may not achieve again)? Resolutions are magical things. They appear around January 1 and disappear somewhere around January 31. Poof! They just don’t seem to have any kind of “adhesive” to them to make ‘em stick.

Is it a question of the Resolution having no “adhesive,” or is a question of US not having the “adhesive?” It doesn’t stick to us because we aren’t getting the resources that we need to make it stick.

Getting the gym membership or making a chart to follow your progress is great. But is it enough? What resource do you need when you get to day 14 and you just can’t commit to it? The membership or the chart are there, but you just can’t bring yourself to do it. WHAT ELSE IS NEEDED?

I believe that we’ve not taken into consideration all of the resources we need AND what resourcefulness we have available for ourselves? Think about that! What resources do you need to help you in the tough times of working towards a resolution?

By definition, a resource is something that we have available to us when we are in need and are working on a goal, for example. These are the things that you and I have at our disposal (internal and external) that can be utilized for some kind of task or event. I can use my accounting knowledge to help with the financial organization of an event.

Being Resourceful is different. How do we use our resources? But more importantly, do we even know what our resources are? How we use our creativity and imagination to look beyond what resources we have, or how we use these resources in ways that we’ve never imagined or thought of, especially when we are feeling stuck or blocked from working towards something.

When we are stuck and need help, how do we use our resources and resourcefulness to get unstuck, and make the resolution stick? What ways outside of our “box” might we need to look at to help us see beyond the blocks or obstacles? Do we need an accountability partner to help us? Do we need someone or something to turn to when we need motivation?

Sometimes we need another perspective, another point of view, another opinion, another set of eyes, another person to help us. We need something different or new to help us see beyond the block.

When we have the right resources and we are being resourceful, then we have a greater chance of seeing these resolutions to completion! And what a year it will be when we do that!

What are your resources for 2021 to make it a year like no other (unlike 2020)? What resourcefulness do you have available to use when you are stock or blocked? Let’s make 2021 a year like no other, and even better than 2020!

I would love to help you discover and use your resources and resourcefulness as you plan for the year ahead….and stick to it!

Instead of a “To Do” list, let’s make it a “To Be” list!
